This is not about a conspiracy, nor are scientists infallible. Nuclear physicists, and other scientists in nuclear energy industries, have a vested interest in supporting nuclear energy, and many have a long history of dissembling about the dangers of radioactivity, and the costs of "storing" spent fuel.
