STUART, Fla. A 68-year-old bicyclist was hit and killed Tuesday morning by a Brightline train in Martin County, according to the sheriff's office. ... The collision occurred near the intersection of Southeast Dixie Highway and Southeast Monterey Road. ... Sheriff John Budensiek said the man who was killed weaved through traffic and crossed the tracks from a side that didn't have crossing arms.
A detective at the scene tried to get the bicyclist's attention, but deputies said the man looked the wrong way and rode directly into the path of the train, which was traveling at about 30 to 40 mph. ... Investigators do not believe this was a suicide.
The crash knocked out power in the area and caused heavy traffic delays. ... The victim's name has not been released.
This is the second fatal incident involving a Brightline train in three days, after two people were
killed in West Palm Beach on Sunday.
