6. ‘Extraordinary Meeting’ Happening After Russian Fighter Plane Shot Down Near Syrian-Turkish Border

NATO has called an “extraordinary meeting” at 5pm Brussels time Tuesday after a Russian fighter plane was shot down near the Syrian border with Turkey earlier in the day.

Reports are conflicting on whether the Russian plane, reportedly an Su-24, was shot down by a surface to air missile, as Russians initially claimed, or by Turkish F-16s.

Both pilots of the Russian plane were seeing ejecting from the plane and parachuting to Earth. Reuters reports that Syrian rebels claim one of the pilots is dead.
