1. It will result in civil war. They don't want US or UK interference. That's how they got stuck with the mullahs.

The US and UK overthrew the Mossadeh government in 1953 and installed the shah. Then the people turned to the mullahs to overthrow the shah (probably with Russian help). Once the dust has settled I see China and India as preferred partners.
