S.C. advocacy group, ACLU launching same-sex marriage effort

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A group in South Carolina is teaming up with the American Civil Liberties Union to explore legal options for same-sex couples.

SC Equality, a statewide LGBT advocacy group, said Wednesday it was launching a “Post-DOMA Litigation Task Force.”

Organizers say the all-volunteer effort will take a look at what options are available to same-sex couples who live in South Carolina and have a legal marriage from another state.

Same-sex marriages are currently legal in 13 states and Washington, D.C. Several other states allow unions or domestic partnerships for gay and lesbian couples.
