1. Why do people just assume that homophobes are gay?

It's like people want to excuse the fact that straight people traditionally don't like us very much, so they claim every homophobe actually has to be a closeted gay person. I know there are some cases of this happening (Haggard, Rikers, etc.) but it's tiring that our community gets blamed for even the hate we receive.
