(95,337 posts)I'll be the first to admit that I spent the beginning years of my life beliving what my church and my narrow-minded school mates told me - that Gay people were sinners, doomed to rot in hell and worthy of hateful slurs tossed at them. Not my proudest moments during my teenage years but to be fair my part in all of this was more silence and allowing others to be bully than doing the right thing.
But like many people, as I got older I got wiser and I started to question those who were negative towards the LGBTQ community. And I realized one thing about those that were opposed to gay rights - these were people full of hate and anger. You mention something about homosexuality around these people their faces would turn red in anger as they tossed off the vilest of hate.
And then I met some gays & lesbians and what I saw about them was the exact opposite - I saw love. Love, happiness, little judgement, friendship. I found that I liked hanging out with these poeple more than my old 'friends' from high school. Who wants to hang out with hateful angry people when you can hang out with loving, happy fun people.
So in the end the reason why I support LGBTQ causes - it's simple: Love vs. Hate. Love just makes this world a better place and me a happier person. Too much hate is toxic and who wants to be around that?
