1. "old-school culture, old-school thinking" that results in violence sure sounds like hate to me.

if anything, this "defense" seems to acknowledge that the motive involved the victims' sexual orientation, which pretty much seems to me to be an admission that it was a hate crime.

it always seemed to me that a better defense for someone accused of a hate crime would be to find something about the victim other than sexual orientation (or race, etc.) and say *that* was the motive. no, no, i did it because they were snoring loudly, your honor.


well, i certainly hope this guy gets the full 80 years.
