2. Buying a book about LGBTQ history in a mainline bookstore

Was not common, at least in my smallish town; truly I am suprised it was stocked then. Closets were deep and wide and filled. There was a Gay Bar Raid that summer in the near large town.
The research, writing and finding a publisher just 5 years after the Stonewall Rebellion/Riots meant that the ideas of LGBTQ civil rights, as history was fairly new in the US.
