I used to run a BBS, back in the "old days." One user and I developed a really great online friendship.. both of us were trekkers to the core, and had great conversations around the core of trek. Eventually, tho, the BBS's died out as the Internet took over and we lost touch with each other. Like you, he and I just happened to "meet up" with each other at the funeral of a mutual friend and coworker. We're now deep into forty years of knowing each other, and live just around the block from each other. We didn't marry each other, tho... I'm old enough to be his mother (LOL)... and I *almost* became his MIL. My daughter really missed the boat, if you ask me. But he checks in on me, and his wife and I are best friends. We share almost everything, including chronic illnesses! I believe there are groups of people you go through life together... a "cadre" of friends. In each reincarnation, (I think I'm a believer, I'm still trying to sort it all out), you unknowingly search out this cadre. This friend of mine and I are part of that cadre, as are another couple who've been with us all 40+ years, as well. I LOVE friendships like these. They aren't many, but they're deep, caring, and allow you to be who you are at all times, the good and the ugly. You, my friend, are one of the very, very lucky ones in this world!
