After Rape Comment Akin Still Leads McCaskill In Brand New Missouri Poll

Congressman Todd Akin is still leading his Missouri senatorial opponent, Claire McCaskill, in the race for her U.S. Senate seat, even after Akin’s offensive comments on rape. A new PPP poll taken yesterday finds the race has narrowed, with Akin in the lead 44% to 43%. As these Polltracker images show, the PollTracker average now gives Akin a 4.3 point lead, down from his 8.7 points pre-rape comments average.

“But PPP’s takeaway is that Akin could still win this thing,” the Washington Post notes. “Whether he can survive the pressure from Republicans to drop out is a whole different question. While voters overwhelmingly disapprove of Akin’s foray into reproductive science, pollster Tom Jensen explains, ‘for many voters their dislike of McCaskill trumps their concerns about Akin’.”
