idiot government officials who will allow all manners of abuse that would be illegal and prosecuted if they were done to a stranger.

(For that matter, if they were done to a child, they would also be a crime.) I do not understand how they can even try to make a case for that abuse to be declared a "family matter" just because a the man has a relationship with the woman.
