Homemade Tomato Soup [View all]

My favorite lunch is tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. I used to rely on the old kitchen standby - Campbell's Tomato soup, but in recent years, the taste has changed and not for the better, less tomato taste and way too sweet. The last time I ate it, I vowed that would be my last. One evening last week, I decided to make some tomato soup from scratch. It was a clean out the pantry soup, used canned tomatoes, tomato sauce and tomato paste and chicken stock cubes. For all my improvising, the soup turned out to be very tasty.

The next morning, the newspaper had an article about the hidden sugar content in popular foods and it listed Campbell's tomato soup as having 10 grams of sugar in a half cup, more than most breakfast cereals.

So glad I made my own tomato soup. I took some to my sewing group and everyone liked it a lot. Gave some to my son, he loved it. Plus we ate it twice here at home.

I bought some better tomato ingredients and I 'm going to make another batch soon. Will write the recipe down then.
