2. I had the "wouldn't spin" problem on an apartment sized stacked washer/dryer unit last year.

Turned out to be a capacitor that helps power the spin motor during startup. Your problem definitely seems related to the heavy wet blanket issue. Clearing the overload signal might require a tech visit. I learned a lot of operational details Googling my problem. (More than I wanted to know, actually.) Calling the manufacturer"s trouble shooting help line just pissed me off. "Call a qualified service provider" isn't why I called.
