In reply to the discussion: Help with litter boxes [View all]Blue Owl
(58,089 posts)31. Recently switched to a brand of litter called "Catalyst"
And definitely recommend it to any cat owner. Not sure how it works in a self-cleaning box, but the litter is so lightweight and odor-free that I don't mind scooping out the box a few times a week and it is also very eco-friendly and inexpensive. You can go for months before it is ready to add/replace or change out.
It's mainly sold online (although I've heard some Hy-Vee stores sell it). So it gets delivered to your door, and never a need to lug heavy, wasteful plastic jugs or 40 lb. boxes.
I used to HATE the smell and grossness of clay litter, and this is a world of difference, super quick and easy to clean with a sifting scoop (a metal one with wide slats works best).
