I have a new but hidden cat

20. Blackie's been out more!

I'd heard noises that sounded like cat claws on glass. I thought my cat was outside hassling the blue birds that are in mating frenzy and hanging out at my windows and doors. But when I went looking for him, I surprised Blackie on the stairs.

Poor thing was terrified. He couldn't go up because my husband was in the room at the top of the stairs and he was afraid to come down because I was there. I talked softly to him and crouched down. I guess he decided I was less scary than my husband because he trotted down, then dashed past me.

I finally got a good look at him. He's a smallish black cat, with one eye and a stub of a tail. I couldn't tell what color his eye is. His coat is thick and shiny so he seems to be in good health. And his weight is good, but we knew his move to our house had not cut his appetite.

At least he's coming out in the open at times other than the middle of the night. And he didn't completely freak when I talked to him. I think we're starting to make progress!
