Brand new adopted kitty - sorry it's a big picture [View all]

I have such a hard time figuring out how to add photos to my posts

Anyway - meet Batman! (We did not pick the name and he answers to it so....) We adopted him Sunday from a cat sanctuary. He is 1 yr (but he seems more kitten like in fur and his body doesn't match his paws. However - not a cat expert).
He was a stray that just walked up to some nice people and they took him to a rescue. Someone was going to adopt him but then never showed up. He never got adopted and ended up on a kill list so the sanctuary took him. After having him for a day, the woman at the sanctuary said this cat is definitely adoptable and took him home and had the rescue put him back on petfinder. We messaged about him apparently that same day. By the weekend - we had a new buddy!

He is sooooooo cuddly - right now he is laying on my neck. He likes to sleep on my neck and face. He was clearly someone's baby but they looked and no one came forward. I mean first meeting and he was cuddling in our arms, head bumping and nuzzling.

I was really worried how he would react to our 2 dogs (16 yr Jazz and 12 yr Durango), not worried about them because they grew up with our cat Scout who died last year at 17. The dogs are completely indifferent to him... Jazz is just irritated that a room is blocked off for him until he feels safe, Durango wants to know why he won't come out and say hi. All the research said give kitty 1-2 weeks to feel comfortable. Night one he had some hissing at the dogs and hid in the office that shares a wall with the living room but it has a weird window in the middle of the wall so we can see him and he can see us and climb through the two rooms.

Last 2 days he is getting braver and braver about venturing out into the rest of the house even with the dogs nearby - they sleep through most of his exploring. If they make eye contact he will hiss but getting better at not running away instantly. We have been really calm and not tried to force any interaction. Our cat Scout ruled the house for 17 yrs, so they are just waiting for Batman to understand he is in charge
