2. I had to train my Golden to bark at the door when someone was outside.

there are situational reasons I needed a heads up when someone was coming down the driveway. He did an excellent alert job.

OTOH, the first time he met one particular woman friend of ours, he fell in love with her in a nanosecond, and had a much different bark when she showed up.
Now that he has passed on.... ....one of my cats gives me a heads up, by running to the door to see who it is. I swear he picked that up from the dog.
