Thousand Of Beagles Soon To Be Up For Adoption After Being Taken From Research Facility [View all]
New York (Knewz) A research group has agreed to turn over more than 4,000 dogs after failing to provide human care and treatment.
The dogs will now be available for adoption, federal officials said.
On July 18, federal prosecutors announced the punishment for Envigo RMS. The company breeds and sells animals for research. The agreement prohibits the company from engaging in any activity at its Cumberland, Virginia, facility.
The U.S. filed suit against the company in May and alleged the company failed to provide human care and treatment to thousands of beagles at the facility.
That includes the lack of housing, feeding, watering, sanitation and other care.
Federal officials worked with the Humane Society of the United States to develop a plan to transfer the 4,000 beagles. They will be made available for adoption.
