Some 20 years ago, I was driving on that exact stretch of highway with my wife and son, when the road suddenly felt ‘slick’ - like Teflon under the tires. I spun around and was briefly facing backward at 70 mph, then spinning a couple of times before heading into the wide, grassy median. As I came to a stop, I saw other cars coming at me in the median. About 12 vehicles went off-road in all - one of which crossed the median and hit another vehicle head-on, killing the driver instantly. The highway was shut down in both directions for about an hour. I gave my statement to police and went on my way, and no explanation was given for the loss of traction. Temperature was in the mid-50s, with no possibility of ‘black ice’ as the culprit. I’m basically skeptical when it comes to paranormal activity, but given the horrific event that had transpired, it did make me wonder what happened the day a bunch of cars wiped out suddenly.
