(16,038 posts)if it was from a private seller too...assuming you live in a different state than the seller..failure to do this for interstate transfers is a violation for both seller and buyer. I have bought several guns off gunbroker.com over the years. I have purchased from both FFLs and from private sellers. I have yet to find either who will transfer out of state without an FFL. I only buy collectible guns off these sites so the $25 FFL fee at my end usually doesn't bother me. OTOH, buying new or more common used guns usually isn't cost effective after adding shipping and ffl fees. Additionally, the FFL I use for mail order transfers is happy to do the transfers for $25 on collectible guns, on guns he could bring in for me (and likely match the price) he wouldn't be nearly as happy, and I would be embarrassed to ask him to do the transfer on a new gun.
