The retired Chicago man who fought successfully to overturn the city's handgun ban has died.

Otis McDonald was the lead defendant in the case before the U.S. Supreme Court four years ago. The court ruled that second amendment rights could not be infringed by local governments.

McDonald died Friday of cancer at the age of 80.
