A safe learning environment is “not possible if a school district allows armed civilians to roam California school campuses," the new bill's author, Assemblyman Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento), told the Los Angeles Times.

Assemblyman McCarty is either not aware the police are civilians (i.e. non-military) or he wishes to disarm them too.

The article specifies "employees" previously being permitted to carry guns on school property. I wonder if this included security guards. If so, the ban is a particularly stupid move.
