or intruder from injuring or killing innocent people. Frequently no shots are fired.

Disarming honest people would have little effect on the criminal element and since there are currently over 300,000,000 firearms in our nation, even if most honest people turned in their weapons, criminals would never face a shortage of weapons. If they did, the drug smugglers would happily become a source of firearms from other nations.
