The National Shooting Sports Foundation is the trade association for the firearms industry. Its mission is to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports. Formed in 1961, NSSF has a membership of more than 6,000 manufacturers, distributors, firearms retailers, shooting ranges, sportsmen's organizations and publishers.

Wouldn't it just be easier to say "Its mission is to sell guns"?

Dunno what "Freedom Group" is, but I suspect it isn't a firearms manufacturer ... no, I'm wrong! It is indeed a firearms manufacturer. I should have known from its name, of course.


Don't get me wrong; I have nothing at all against the shooting sports (hunting aside, which calls for a more nuanced response).

But a corporate donor is a corporate donor, and a bunch of corporate donors with a fancy name are still promoting their own interests.

Now, if the NSSF were to start funding, oh, well, I was going to say organizations that combat violence against women, but I think they'd be hard pressed to find any that wanted their money.
