British oppression prompted the founding of the US. What the hell could be so wrong with someone that they couldn't see that?
Look at all the posts here of people saying that armed rebellion is impossible or not feasible today, and that such notions are obsolete.
There are lots of people who truly believe that we have arrived at the pinnacle of representative government.
When you have people running for office who consider half the country not worthy of worrying about, how could anyone believe that?
