49. They turned the old Cannery in Honolulu into a bunch of boutiques!

I was back there in 1990 and could not believe it. Wandered around, had lunch, sent flowers to my mom and MIL, and bought a really nice string of cultured pearls.

Felt strange.

OTOH, the old stadium that had been within earshot of my adult apartment on Date Street in Honolulu had been turned into a public park, which was just the outcome I had lobbied for with a group of other activists. It was going to be torn down and a new stadium built elsewhere, and of course condo and business developers had their eye on the land. When I moved away I hadn't known we would win, and we did. That felt very good indeed.

I may go back next year for my high school reunion. We'll see.....
