(56,256 posts)I am still undecided. I have no problem with people who have already declared. However, I have a huge issue with the partisans who spend most, if not all, of their time trashing the other candidates, as opposed to pointing out what is good about their candidate or defending their candidate. I have seen black folk disrespected and told the only reason they are "for Hillary" is because of "name recognition" and gays are getting popped in the head with "look how much Clinton hated you people 5 years ago". It smacks of arrogance and, yes, I will say it...privilege! When our concerns are brought up, they are dismissed, chastised, or belittled.
For the most part, I have stayed out of the overly-partisan threads, with the exceptions of the ones which are attacks on minorities, or I believe the post is being divisive by using the issues of one of my groups. I can't say I am surprised as I have been at DU for years.
DU tends to be high information voters.
The vast majority of Americans are not.
That is also very true. It is one of the things that concerns me about both Sanders and O'Malley. Even I, who reads DU everyday, no next to nothing about O'Malley and he will be a hard sell to those who aren't familiar with him at all. It doesn't mean he can't run a good and successful campaign, it is just a reality which his group will have to face. The same is true of Sanders. I know more about him because of a variety of things, including, well, he's a Jew, but outside of DU it's "Bernie who?" and that's from democrats! All three will have various challenges and there is nothing wrong with pointing out those challenges, but I am not liking those who are making it all about the challenges, pitting minority groups against one another, patronizing minority posters, and not being willing to face up to actual criticism of their candidate.
BTW...you have done a good job of advocating for O'Malley. If more people followed your example, DU would be much less contentious and actual issues might actually get discussed! His campaign has a good ally in you, but then again, you are a good ally!
