(13,993 posts)I have seen people post things about women and minorities that were not at all distinguishable from stuff on free Republic and Stormfront. They cam from both the self styled centre right who think we need to be more like the GOP and the self appointed progressiveness who seem to think dealing with racial and social justice will not get them their jobs back quick enough. Both of these types are cowards, and the BEST friends the GOP have, for they know that they only win because Democrats will slit each other's throats, especially those of the minorities that have been their backbone.
No amount of excellence or wealth allows a minority so much as comfort an respect, Obama proved that very well. Meanwhile, in addition to the GOP divas, there are two sets of factions here on DU who think they are entitled to glory and unquestioned respect, even though their record on protecting our civil rights and our economy has been LOUSY. Yeah Clinton, I am talking to you, lover of H1b-Visasa and cutter of FDR era programs that kept our economy healthy, and you, Sanders, even though I like a lot of what you say, you were ill prepared at best. To his supporters, do not think that we forget how a lot of unions treated minorities like crap, and were happy for them to be the "last hired, first fired." No, the good old days were not good for many of us.
If you will give us nothing more to be loyal to than "we will hate you less then the other guy" then frankly, do not expect any support beyond that. The way you treat people on DU is an example, where people are diverse as Bravenak and Seabeyond and 1stroingblackman are continually subjects of Witch Hunts, while the good ol boys come here on the way from having a beer at discussionist, get their crap pushes to the greatest page, does it by trashing every damned T.O.S rule, then stitch their sock puppets in case on of the mods actually tries to enforce the rules.
There will come a time when you are weak, especially after the Bushes and the Clintons finish their compromises and sell outs just in time so the Chelsea Clinton and George P. Bush can run in the 2040 election campaign. When that time comes, we will remember how you treated those who spoke for us, or at least to us, instead of shouting at us. You may learn exactly what that old line meant when it was said "by that time, there was no one left to speak for me."
