(37,481 posts)I really like Sanders, but he has two big problems (which I know just saying it will get me severely scolded):
1- the lack of adequate PoC support. Secretary Clinton has GREAT PoC support.
2- the fact that he has self-identified as a democratic socialist.
Problem #1: It's a fact that a Democrat CANNOT get elected POTUS without significant AA support. Just having whites, Latinos, Asians and other groups alone won't do it. No way no how. If he can't raise his numbers in the AA community, he's toast in the GE.
Problem #2: Yea yea yea, all we smart folks on DU know what a DS is, and we aren't scared of it. Your average low information voter ? OMGWTFCOMMUNIST!!!! That combined with the Republicans spells defeat. He MUST overcome that ignorance barrier. You better believe the Republicans are going to hammer relentlessly on the ignorance factor and outright lie about it and use every Goebbels trick in the book. Yea yea yea, young people aren't so scared of socialism, but young people under 30, in general, have a really bad habit of NOT voting. Older and middle-aged people vote in much higher percentages.
I know I just pissed off 90% of this board, but that's what I believe. Not going to get into pissing matches or nasty ass arguments about it. You disagree with me, cool. I've been around politics long enough that I'm pretty confident of my opinions.
