In reply to the discussion: Spike Lee - "Black People Can't Be Racist - Discuss [View all]All people tend to define things in the way that works best for them. It works best for white people to define racism in a way that allows us to point at other people without having to look at our own lives. It keeps us from having to do any work. We can just say that the problem is other people, elsewhere, maybe an uncle who will die off anyway, or maybe people who live somewhere else. We don't have to look at the structures and institutions we're a part of and consider how they might have racism built into them, and therefore we don't have to do anything to change them.
