I don't know why they feel so threatened she is a very nice person.

I would guess, it's because she, started off as a strong supporter, and is of the demographic that is sorely being missed. Her presence, as a, now, non-supporter is a testament to their, un-admitted wrongs.

This is akin to someone coving they ears and stomping their feet.
