(56,249 posts)I can see how this could be seen as a possible anti-Semitic dogwhistle. What is really frustrating are the ones which are posting those whistles seem to be sliding by, so I don't know if this was genuine concern, or if this was just a way to "get at you." Anti-Semitism is not something well understood here, or in general. So we have people swinging wide, sometimes making the hit, other times missing completely. There is a post in LBN which got a 7-0 to LEAVE IT despite the alert the cartoon was anti-Semitic and though I didn't think the cartoon was anti-Semitic, it should have at least garnered one "hide" because it really did look like an old canard of "the money hungry Jew" it was nothing more than a comment on Israel's PM taking funding from the US while ignoring suggestions from the US. Also the target was different, which as you know, sometimes makes a HUGE difference in whether something is perceived to be bigoted or not. Your comment was about Sanders, the other was about Netanyahu.
Also, did you mean to say what you said or did you mean to write: (referencing his propensity to forget to mention other issues over economics)?
As someone who is Jewish, I will say when one starts talking about money and Jews, especially it being in our DNA, it causes ears to perk up. I fully understand what you were saying based on your prior posts and my knowing you on a more personal level. However, someone who doesn't have those things in their bag might not see it (or choose not too). It would be similar if I were to say "Obama is constantly monkeying around with..." You, and a few others, would know my use of the phrase would have NOTHING to do with Obama's race, but one can see how it could be viewed as potentially racist because there are those who are racist who get off on skating the line. So, when it comes to "Jews and money," I suggest extreme caution (unless you are talking about Israel, a republican Jew, or other "undesirable" Jew (Adleson comes to mind) then it seems not to matter (as much)). There is a long and very nasty history in regards to Jews and finances/money, which has produced some very ugly stereotypes about us.
