ODS-shocked (or DU whipped), but isn't this:
no. that barack obama became the first black president is simply a matter of timing. someone would be first, he was there with backers when the party decided to run a black candidate (which itself was a product of political calculations). the rarity has nothing in particular to do with BO's specialness, it's a product of history.
as for people coming out of harvard law & becoming senators, presidents, whatever -- it happens often enough to fill the limited slots.
Is the above NOT dangerously damned close to calling President Obama "just an Affirmative Action hire"?

And as a Whine Pre-emptive: I am calling out the above as a racist, but I'm am shocked to see this argument on DU ... I distinctly recall so many DUers up in arms when the right made this same argument in 2008 ... that Barack Obama was nothing special; he just happened to be an available Black man when the Democratic party needed a Black man.
My how things and places change.
