The YouTuber posted the songwriter, Charlie Smalls. Over a year ago, my husband and I were talking about childhood Saturday morning shows, the Monkees in particular. I told him I saw a black guy named Charlie on The Monkees and he didn't believe me. Took a while but found it, of course!
It was the last scene in the broadcast with Davy Jones, Some Like It Lukewarm. It was a lesson that I've never forgotten, besides seeing a brother on the show.
I was then shocked to learn that Mr. Smalls died back in '87. He done good and I thought he shouldn't be forgotten.
