(1,045 posts)That AAs here care about social justice "only" because some of us are relatively well-to-do, thus we need not care about economic justice in our communities.
This is the furthest thing from the truth. What we DO realize is systemic racism is what prevents economic equality in our communities. Environmental racism, public health disparities, voter disenfranchisement, all play a part in this shit. I have family members RIGHT NOW, living in Flint and Detroit, and happy to get a job paying $12 an hour. And it's because how fucked up the Rust Belt is in general due to Republicans' fucked up policies and racist agenda. My family migrated here to work for good money, now most of the children are struggling because jobs were taken out of these communities and sent to other brown folks who will work for less money.
Racist thoughts cannot be legislated, period. We can make it rain with the money, but unless we have a cultural shift against prejudiced AND paternalistic/maternalistic thought processes, no amount of money is gonna change shit.
And hey yall. I left here for a while because I was uncharacteristically angry at some of the stuff I was reading, and needed to take a break to focus on my children's mastery program at a new school and my new career.
