Part of my educational drive had and still has to do with seeing how the system is set up.
Part of me driving my children and my extended family the way I do is due to how the system is set up.
And a large part of it (also) is empathy and being in it for the long haul because none of what we have now is due to overnight changes and quite frankly, never will be. Who would I, or any of us black folks be, to abandon and talk down to those of us who have not been through this portion of the system, to be where we are now??? Truly, wtf.
It's insulting to be patronized, talked down to, and surrounded by people who think we are simple-minded and don't pay attention to the shit that goes on in America, regardless of educational level, money, and whatever else comprises the American dream.
I give y'all so much credit for hanging in there because I don't compartmentalize like y'all. It's definitely a gift.
