In reply to the discussion: The Creepy Cull of DU's Black Voices [View all]Digital Puppy
(496 posts)The ones I have the most issues with are the ones who quote/rec/kick the grand pu bahs of DU Land who "explain" how I might have 'Stockholm Syndrome' or I don't really know what I am saying when I talk about race or social justice. Oh, sorry...the tactic is: "I'll just leave this right here....DISCUSS!!" or "I'm just asking the question!"
These 'long-standing' DU'ers dismiss me because my post count is less than 20k or say I don't understand because I'm wired a certain way and just need to come to my senses. These veteran DU'ers insist that if I only got a higher paying job, my life would be much better and the racism and social injustice that I see everyday would magically disappear.
When I beg, demand, plead for them to hear and absorb the words - with multiple examples - I put forward, they tell me I'm combative and don't want to listen to their gospel. Of course if they feel too uncomfortable they hit the alert button and send in their equally ignorant (malicious?) DU cronies serving as a jury of their own peers to mute one of the few diverse voices around.
These aren't the short-time "jerks" who are responding, these are "long time DUers" who know exactly what they are doing....
Let's not kid ourselves, this behavior is accepted and modeled after. I think we would do ourselves a favor and acknowledge that this part of DU culture is not going to change.
