(20,450 posts)for his supporters, it doesn't have to be.
If they truly cared about what Sanders stands for, they'd start working right now to recruit Sandernista candidates to lower office. They'd make sure to groom these people and prepare them for higher office.
People who truly support Sanders' agenda would remain involved, not take their ball and stomp home like whiny little brats. They'd ensure that everyone is registered to vote and will work for the 2018 midterm elections.
And if the Sanders supporters hate the Democratic Party that much, they'd leave it and create a liberal party or a viable Democratic Socialist party, and they'd build that party from the grassroots level.
My guess is that these things won't happen because, as you say, most of these people are "armchair quarterbacks". And that's always been the problem with us liberals. We give up too quickly. It took the conservatives 40 years to build their brand. They never gave up, understanding that revolutions do not occur overnight. Now they finally got what they want--young, ultra-conservative candidates dominating state and local politics and now Congress. They never gave up. And now we see our fundamental rights under assault. Why? Because conservatives never gave up. They patiently fought and continued to slowly chip away at what they could, and now we're teetering on the brink of a total destruction of our rights and a regression to 1950s policies.
