(10,893 posts)to not exactly be the place that I read about in the brochure. I originally found this place in 2012 in the heat of the GOP primaries, just as a sort of sanctuary from the Ron Paul worship on YouTube and GOP/libertarian talking point parrots elsewhere online. I was in love with DU for a while, but recently (especially since the NSA story gained attention), things have really gotten nasty around here. Not once did I ever imagine that a person would be called a "cheerleader" or a "paid shill" on a Democratic website just for posting something positive about the Democratic President or criticizing Snowden and Greenwald. Never. Furthermore, I've even heard people accuse others of diverting from (name policy they disagree with Obama on) whenever there is a poster who starts a thread in GD about social issues such as feminism and racism, for example. It's gotten crazy enough to where I am nearly left speechless.
I'll still continue to post here regularly and check on some of the news before it hits the TV, but yeah...sometimes it's easy to forget that I'm on a site dedicated to Democrats. The positive threads about Obama and the Democratic Party in general usually only garner about a few dozen recs maximum, while the outrage posts easily get into the hundreds, no matter if the outrage is recycled/misplaced or not. Clearly not everyone who posts here is a Democrat, and as Tarheel Dem mentioned in one thread, this place has seen its share of infiltrators from sites such as DailyPaul.
