(1,989 posts)Every time I step away...things go crazy. I don't know what's going on here, lately. DU has been an eye opener for me, though. I sometimes read some of the stuff that's written on DU to my mother. She's like..."are you sure those are democrats?" Mom, you have no idea!!!
I've been reading and playing catch up. You guys are tough. I get tired of the "crazy" some days and I just have to step away. To my mind, in many ways...President Obama has been the best president I've seen in my lifetime. But, I promise...I will be glad when someone else gets it in the White House.
Sometimes, I see these lists of people DUers want to see in the White House, and you know...it's just best not to post on those days. Because I'm thinking...no one in their right mind thinks this person has a snow ball's chance in hell getting elected. We have a democrat in the White House right now. There are some things getting done right now...that wouldn't be getting done with a republican in the White House. And, yet...the great search for the next "truly" progressive president has started. Well, I hope they find that person.
But, if they can't recognize President Obama as a decent man, trying to do the right thing...it's just a lost cause. I disagree with the President on policies sometimes. Heck, often. But, with some folks...NOTHING is getting done, just because what they want isn't getting done.
That's a part of the privilege, don't you think? Minorities are so used to having to wait...and wait...and wait. But, when you're a part of a group that's used to the world revolving around you...any delay is unacceptable.
Even being poor as a part of a majority is different from being poor as part of a minority community. It would suck regardless. But, the expectations are just different.
