This place has become unbearable for AA and women. I am well aware of that. What has been said troubles me in many ways.

224. To be blunt prvilege has nothing to do with the fact

that single mothers are on the rise in our country and children simply don't have two parents to help raise them. Also a single mother must work more hours to raise children compared to a household that has two incomes to pull from. The government is tight on money and more and more men (especially black men) are incarcerated for not paying child support whether they are they father or not (biological). Straight Black males have walked away from father hood because there are no role models to look to for inspiration anymore and the entertainment media portrays them as fools. Bill Cosby I rarely agree with but he has talked about how there have always been strong black role models to look to but instead of focusing on black achievement the focus has shifted now.

The black community has the same issues as the LDC of the world in that that birth control education is lacking and that having a lot of kids reduces your spending power simply put. This cycle is difficult to break but it starts at the school level or more specifically public education levels.

One thing they say is there are no role models for black males. On Democratic Underground I guess our duly, twice elected President is not considered a role model. Sadly he is beneath contempt for many here. Oh they scream "we are holding his feet to the fire, he told us to!" That is utter bullshit, it will never ever matter what he has accomplished, it will never ever be enough! The fact that we need a protected group on DU, The BOG to appreciate this President and his accomplishments is telling. The fact that the BOG is ridiculed and slandered without censure is once again letting the cat out of the bag. IMHO most of the hatred of this President is that he has the audacity of "Presidenting" while black. And again IMHO, he is doing a damn fine job of it! He has brought a sense of dignity and honor to this nation.

Something else too, DU has become "from said true progressives" a rather blind group in their criticisms.

Hmmm really? Well why is birth control lacking? It starts at the school level? Really, that's it? Our "true progressives at DU refuse to acknowledge the war on women that the GOP is waging. They cut PP and restrict women obtaining needed healthcare. They are making it harder to get birth control. We are sluts if we take it and stupid takers if we conceive with the lack of birthcontrol.

I do not blame you for wanting to leave, yet please do not. We need you here. You are not alone, there are so many good people that have your back.

Half the time I feel more comfortable and at home here in AA than in GD.
