(135,425 posts)sometimes get goaded with that label (but not by you, at least not that I recall!). I am a social programs/safety net FREAK, actually, and I'm in the "Rising Tide Lifts All Boats" club.
I hang out with (well, help out with rides and things of that nature) a lot of really old people...they are conservative about odd things, but their conservatism has more to do with APPEARANCES than actions. They're of the "Go ahead and do that, it doesn't bother MEEEEE... but don't broadcast it to the neighborhood" mindset. They're wrapping their heads around their grandchildren making different choices about how they live their lives, and "different" looking families, and "uh oh why won't they go to my church," but what's funny about these people is that once they realize that they aren't the only ones living in this new reality, and no one bats an eye, they stop worrying, they "get over it" and then get all happy and proud. THEY don't give a shit--they're just worried about what that busybody "over there" might think.
I hope they'll be the last generation that has to go through all that agita, because it's a waste of frigging time. There will probably always be the "fashion divide" and the "music divide," but beyond that we all need to get along. My old pals, they're reliable "D" voters, of course--never miss an election, either.
I am late to the whole "party" here with these "old people" threads. I don't like ageism, but I don't think you've got a problem with people based on age--I never have.
Sometimes very young people can act like old farts too--look at any of the idiots under thirty who are dumb enough to call themselves Republicans!
