Who do they think have the power to have made our society the way it is? Do they think that young people, women of color, other minorities are the ones who are making sure society is backsliding on sexism, racism, classism? Undoubtedly from their many, many positions of power - the Senate, the House, the lobby firms, the Fortune 500 companies are just brimming with people belonging to a minority group. The Koch brothers have so many black sisters, right? And the House is chock full of black men and women.
No, it is their generation that for good or bad has held the reigns of society lately, and while they themselves have worked against it, they need to realize that we are going the wrong way. We are not progressing, we are regressing. Their way isn't working, and it is time to start listening to younger voices, minority voices, because after all, the young ones will live in this society for 50, 60, 70 years more, while they have 15-20 years left.
In essence, they are putting forth the 'Not All Men' defense. Not all the Boomers, perhaps, but if they are not part of the problem, we are not talking about them, and if they descend into a pity party about how it hurts them to hear that their generation is f&/%ing up society right now, they *are* part of the problem.
