(3,580 posts)I'm new here, I don't know the various factions etc so I'm taking everyone I read at their word.
I think it's very important for liberals with a variety of experiences get to express themselves on a site that has democratic in the name.
I am an old white woman, most of my daily living experiences are within the black community. My family is multiracial, we have identified 3 races and several ethnic groups at weddings and funerals. Until recently, this country was run by white men and they are having a fit. They had a few good ideas but many of their other ideas didn't work out so well for minority groups and women. I can see it, I've seen it all my life. I don't think it's anti anyone to point this out, the results of white men running the country is not some residual injustices that are being corrected but a mindset that is hellbent on maintaining the status quo that continues to poison the well.
My early hero when I was coming of age was Shirley Chisholm, there's a quote somewhere where she says she faced more obstacles being a woman than being black when she got to congress. I took her at her word, but to me both groups have suffered and been held back and had to fight for any kind of equality, and yes white men have joined the fight. The fight continues, we should find a way to be together and not get our backs up if someone from another ethnic/racial/religious/gender/orientation etc group expresses their own experience.
