I raised my daughter so that she would get to know many people, all kinds of people. She and her husband are raising my grandson the same way. And I don't mean having a token friend but break bread, go to each others churches, homes, schools,babysit each others kids, go to the weddings, funerals, events of each others lives become so familiar that you are no longer among different people. Don't be afraid to be the only "fill in the blank" person in a group of people who don't look like you. Avoid the sameness of your life. Especially if you are white. I figured she would be part of a world where hatred and fear of others would not be a positive trait to have, since the world is turning brown. I think it's moving in the right direction, I might not see it myself but I believe in my heart that it will happen.
