(34,648 posts)There is a difference between people of my generation and people of theirs and i am not talking about manners. It is on outlook and how we see the world. I grew up in the multicultural world where black culture wasn't some secret hidden world where black people had a secret thing going on, everybody was a part of it and we do have alot of merging where the lines are more blurred. When i talk to my white friends about white people they automatically know that i'm not talking about them and they don't see themselves as a part of white culture. To them 'white culture' is the past and they are glad about that because it's suffocating to them and i guess they feel more a part of hip hop culture. I thought i was getting to old for hip hop culture but when i look at the people that represent it, i realize that they are my age, i am the future i speak of i'm just a pat of the first wave.
Where we look forward and feel excited and inspired, they look to the past for inspiration. We do that too. We look back to the women rights movements of the early 20th century and the mid to late twentieth centuries and and use what they did to build on. I know it looks like womens rights are slipping backwards and i don't see it the same way they do. I see pathetic attempts by old conservatives, of both parties trying to cling on to the past and influence the future. There has always been those among us who will fight to take our society and move us back in time. It is the last gasp of conservatism and white supremacy, but they have not been able to infect their children and grandchildren with their backwards conservative thinking. Their grandchildren are my age, my peers and they do not want to live in that world either.
I see conservatism as a sort of resurgence of the confederacy and as a movement full of people who will not be here in twenty years, forcing their religious beliefs and patriarchal insanity on the rest of us for very much longer. I feel like there is nothing wrong in my pointing out that my children will be equal partners and on equal footing with their great grand children.
