9. I would have to know their story

60/70 years ago it was that natural place for affluent black folks in the South and most likely the North East too.

Read the book - Our Kind Of People by Lawrence Otis Graham. The affiliation should have had a cold hard demarc line with FDR - but Harding's short Presidency sucked folks back in for another 30/40 years.

In the 1920's something as simple as a President's disgust at lynching sucked people in. As far as I'm concerned - he was the first modern Democrat.

Sadly - the people in that picture with Alaskastan probably would be against Harding and he wouldn't be allowed in te Republican Party.

Read up on him - he was an interesting figure. There are a few pictures hanging on my Aunt D's livingroom walls (she lives in our family hoe on the original land in Alabama) of my grandfather and his father with Harding in the teens.
