I think there's just so much room in our mental file cabinets and they purge themselves periodically to make room for new stuff. Especially now that we have Mr. Google to find for us almost anything we need to review. Like people lost their skills for memorizing centuries of oral history once everyone could his or her hands on paper and pencil without inordinate expense.
