I think many Democrats choose #1, I think #2 is most appropriate. #3 is shallow, self-serving and not very honorable, even if I'd use the given name myself.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid that a goodly proportion choose #3, feeling that it's enough to recognize the problem, but not their obligation to address it.
